Almost eight years after its original release, DICE’s Star Wars Battlefront 2 has been overrun by hackers, rendering it almost unplayable online. The onus is now on EA to bring Star Wars back to a playable state.
Upon its launch in 2017, Star Wars Battlefront 2 was met with plenty of derision from players and critics. Much of the criticism was aimed at , Star Wars which locked many of the franchise’s most iconic characters behind loot box mechanics. Players could technically earn these characters through regular play, but it would take so long that the average player would never achieve it. After DICE fixed this, players were able to look at the gameplay itself objectively, which was largely considered great. In the years since, Star Wars Battlefront 2 has gained something of a cult following, with a small community keeping the game alive.
Over the last week, several threads on Reddit and the EV have pointed out that hackers have infiltrated particularly Star Wars. Galactic Assault, preventing players from spawning in altogether. This has essentially rendered these modes unplayable, with the situation worsening lately as even players hopping from lobby to lobby are struggling to find one without this issue.
Star Wars Battlefront 2 is Near-Unplayable Thanks to Hackers
The good news is that it seems EA is aware of the problems. In a new post from Star Wars Battlefront 2 modding project Kyber, there were claims that “EA has deployed a server-side fix to prevent some of the exploits from being used to interfere with official game servers.” Whether this solves the issue entirely remains to be seen, with mixed responses from players on the game’s Steam servers. EA has yet to officially confirm whether any update of the sort has been deployed to help one of the Best Star Wars Games get back on track.
There has been no indication that Star Wars Battlefront 3 is on the way any time soon, leaving the series in limbo on its second installment for the second time in its history. At the upcoming Star Wars Celebration convention in Japan, players will also get their first look at Star Wars Outlaws‘ second DLC, A Pirate’s Fortune.
